Biography
He was the father of Admiral Sir Alexander Milne who was Commander-in-Chief North America and West Indies Station 1860.
 
Military Service
He entered the Royal Navy in 1779. He served in the East Indies 1779-93. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 13/01/1794). He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 26/04/1795). He was in command of the Forth District of the Sea Fencibles 1803-11. He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 02/10/1795). He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral of the Blue RN (With seniority dated 04/06/1814). He was appointed as Commander-in-Chief HM Ships and Vessels on the Coast of North America and Lakes of Canada 1817 (Flag in H.M.S. Leander and H.M.S. Mersey) 1817. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN 1825. He was appointed as a Admiral RN 1841. He was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief at Portsmouth in 1842.
