He was appointed as a Second Class Wireless Telegraph Operator (RNCVR (With seniority dated 01/03/1916). In 1916-1918 he served in HMCS Niobe as Additional for Duty at North Sydney (NS) Radio Station as Wireless Telegraph Operator. (He was demobilized.)
