Biography
He was educated as an Electrical Engineer at McGill University.
 
Military Service
He served in the Canadian Army in First Canadian Contingent BEF. (Transferred to the RNAS) 1915. He was appointed as a Flight Sub-Lieutenant RNAS 1915. He served in RNAS Eastchurch for Training 1915. He served in #1 Wing RNAS (Dunkirk) 1915. He was appointed as a Flight Lieutenant RNAS (With seniority dated 01/01/1916). He served in #3 (Naval) Squadron 1916. He served with #5 Squadron RNAS 1916. He was appointed as a A/Flight Commander RNAS 1917. He was appointed as a Squadron Commander RNAS (With seniority dated 21/05/1917). He served in RNAS Dunkirk. He was appointed as a Wing Commander RNAS. (Transferred to RAF 1918). He was appointed as a Colonel RAF. (Transferred to CAF 1922). He was appointed as a Colonel CAF Section General Staff Overseas Military Forces of Canada 1918-19. He was appointed as an AdC 1931. He was appointed as a Group Captain RCAF. He was appointed as a Air Commodore RCAF. (He was the first Canadian to join an operational squadron of the RNAS on 19/01/1915. While in #1 Wing (Dunkirk) he made the second recorded attack by an aircraft on a submarine in 1915. He was the first pilot to do night spotting for artillery and to test parachute flares. He is considered to have been the highest ranking Canadian airman of World War One.)
