He was the Viscount Muskerry and Cork and the Earl of Cancarty. On April 5th, 1733, he was appointed Commodore-Governor of Newfoundland, becoming the fifth governor. Permanent settlement of Newfoundland was ongoing, and efforts continued to diminish the power of the fishing admirals. In 1735 he returned to Ireland. |
