He was appointed as an A/Mate RNCVR (With seniority dated 24/08/1915). He served in HMCS Niobe For Special Services at Halifax 1915. He was appointed as a Temporary Chief Skipper RNCVR (With seniority dated 29/03/1917). He served in HMC T.R.-8 (In command) 1917. (He was demobilized.)
