He joined the RCAF in 1940. He operated as a fighter pilot (Spitfire and Hurricane) in 1941 in the UK. In 1941 he was sent to the Western Desert in 274 (RAF) Squadron. (CFR). He was appointed as a Flight-Lieutenant RAF. He was shot down over enemy lines but bailed out over the sea. He was then posted to RAF Ismailia as a Flying Instructor. In 1944 he joined the RCAF 421 (Red Indian) Squadron as Flight Commander. In 1944 he was shot down, wounded and captured as a POW. |
