He was living in Toronto ON at the time of his recruitment into the navy.

He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1959. In 1959 he served in HMCS York for UNTD. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/07/1964). (He was released.)
