Biography
After his naval service he was a journalist, broadcaster and author of historical and business (non-fiction) works. Author - Peter C Newman - 17 books Editor - Maclean's Magazine Editor-in-Chief - Toronto Star.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman (UNTD Officer Candidate) 1947. He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1948. He served in HMCS York for UNTD 1948-1951. He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) 1950-1951. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) 1951. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) 1952. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R). (He was released.) He was appointed as a Commander (NR). He was appointed as a Captain (NR) 1988. He served in NDHQ as Policy Advisor to Chief of Reserves and Cadets and as Policy Advisor to Senior Naval Reserve Advisor 1988. (He was released.)

Bill Clearihue (Email to Nauticapedia 10/09/2023) stated "There's gaps in his service but I believe that circa 1980, the upper echelons of the NavRes, who had been UNTDs, brought him back into active service as a CDR, no doubt because of his celebrity and connections. He was promoted to LT while on the retired List and likely skipped the rank of LCDR completely."
