Military Service
He was appointed as an Assistant Paymaster RNCVR (With seniority dated 02/08/1914). He was one of the first three commissioned officers in the RNCVR. He served in HMCS Shearwater. He travelled to the UK where he transferred to the RNVR. He was appointed as an Assistant Paymaster RNVR 1914. He served in HMS Victory (Depot at Portsmouth) as Assistant Paymaster 1915. He served in HMS Daffodil (sloop) as Assistant Paymaster-in-charge on the Coast of Ireland (Queenstown) 1915. He served in HMS Colleen (depot ship) 1915. (He resigned He served in HMS Glory as Paymaster at Murmansk Russia 1916. (He resigned from the RNCVR 15/04/1915). (Transferred to RNVR) He served in HMS Implacable as Paymaster Lieutenant RNVR 1918-1919 on Northern Patrol. He served in HMS Egmont (depot ship) at Malta 1919. He served in HMS Ark Royal (serving in Mediterranean, Somaliland and Black Sea operations) 1919-20. (He was demobilized and returned to Victoria BC). (Transferred to RCNR for World War Two service). He was appointed as a Paymaster Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNR (With seniority dated 20/10/1939). (Mobilized for World War Two service 20/10/1939). He served on the Staff of Commanding Officer Pacific Coast for Intelligence Duties in Charge of Confidential Books 1939. He served in HMCS Naden. He was appointed as a Paymaster Lieutenant-Commander (Temp.) (RCNR) (With seniority dated 01/01/1943). (He was demobilized.)
