Military Service
Entered Canadian Services College Royal Roads in September 1963 under the Regular Officer’s Training Plan as a Naval Cadet RCN (With seniority dated 01/09/1963). He moved to the Royal Military College, Kingston in 1965 and graduated in 1967. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 01/05/1967). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 01/05/1967). Selected for aircrew training with the RCAF, he attended flying training schools in Borden ON (Chipmunk), Moose Jaw SK (Tutor) and Portage-la-Prairie (Expeditor) where he received his RCN wings in September 1968. Following a Rotary Wing conversion course at Rivers, MB, (Hiller) he was appointed to Shearwater, NS for conversion to the Sea King Helicopter. (1969). On completion of his type conversion, he was appointed to HS 50 and served in HMC Ships Bonaventure, Fraser and St. Laurent. (1969-1972). He was promoted to CAPT (PLT). Selected for an exchange tour with the USN, he was appointed to HS-15 and served onboard US Ships Guam, Independence and Nimitz. (1972-1975). He was promoted to MAJ (PLT) and returned to Canada to National Defence Headquarters, Ottawa where he served in the DCDS Branch. (1975-1978). He was appointed to HS 423 (Shearwater) and served as Air Officer in HMC Ships Skeena and Athabaskan. (1978-1980). He was appointed to the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College in Toronto. (1980-1981). He was appointed to HS 443 (Shearwater) as Executive Officer. (1981-1983). He was appointed to Air Command Headquarters Winnipeg in the Operations Division. (1983-1985). He was promoted to LCOL (PLT) and appointed as Commanding Officer HS 423 (Shearwater). (1985-1987). He was appointed to French Language Training at Shearwater. (1987-1988). He was appointed to Maritime Air Group Headquarters, Halifax as SSO Rotary Wing. (1988-1989). He was promoted to COL (PLT) and appointed to Arabic Language training in Ottawa. (1989-1990). He was appointed as Canadian Forces Attaché in the Canadian Embassy, Cairo with accreditation to Egypt and Sudan. (1990-1993). He was appointed as Secretary to the Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Allied Forces Central Europe, Brunssum, NL. (1993-1996). He was appointed as Deputy Commander, Maritime Air Group Headquarters, Halifax. (1996-1997). He was appointed as Commander, Maritime Air Component Commander (Atlantic) in Halifax. (1997-99). He was appointed as Chief of Liaison with the Multinational Force and Observers in the Sinai. (1999-2000). Retired 2000.
