In 1886 he served in the Canada Department of Marine & Fisheries. (He was qualified as a Mate (Coasting). (He was qualified as a Master Mariner.) He worked in the marine trade in the northwest first in the tug Leonora c1886. He served four years in tugboats in Vancouver and then in the steamer Joan in Victoria BC, two years as Mate and a short time as Master of the Isabel. He then was Master of the Joan. (In 1899 he was appointed as a Marine Pilot in the Nanaimo Pilotage District.) He was part owner of the D.W. Gordon and the Dawadeena. (In 1916c he was retired.) |
