Anecdotes
Gordon Laco (Email to Nauticapedia 16/07/2016) states "I knew him through the marine business, and one time at dinner here at our home I had the nerve to ask him how he received the injury which resulted in the terrible scar he bore on his head. He told me the story, which as was his way, he made sound very funny... He told me he reckoned that he might not survive WWII if his career as an officer in destroyers continued as it seemed to be heading, so he volunteered to fly in the Fleet Air Arm. His injury occurred during his last deck landing on an aircraft carrier while flying a Fairey Firefly. He ended the story commenting that his record as not awarded that last landing as a ‘landing’."
