Pickmore only stayed for two months in 1816, and his second-in-command, Commander David Buchan, remained to take charge. Pickmore did not return until the autumn of 1817, and became the first governor of Newfoundland to stay the winter. |

He was stationed on the Newfoundland Station as a Lieutenant RN in 1777. He was appointed as a Captain RN. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN. By 1814 he was promoted to Vice-Admiral RN, and he was appointed as Commodore-Governor of Newfoundland in 1816, arriving in September that year. He was the first Governor to be resident year-round, but died while in office. |
