He was appointed as an Officer Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1960. In 1960 he served in HMCS Malahat for UNTD. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/09/1963). He served in HMCS Malahat. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/09/1963).
