(He was qualified as a Master Mariner.) He was the Master of vessels in the West Indies trade. He served in the Liverpool firm of Anderson, Anderson and did several vogaes for tea between Hong Kong and London. The company owned timber interests on the Alberni Canal region of Vancouver Island. On 15/04/1867 he was appointed as Pilotage Commissioner in Victoria. He was the Resident Magistrate at Burrard Inlet BC. He worked for Captain Edward Stamp in the Stamp's Mill and was appointed as Manager when Dickson, Dewolf and Company took over. In 1879 he was appointed as a Marine pilot in the Vancouver Pilotage District and as the first Chairman of the New Westminster Pilotage Authority. He was retired in 1881. |
