He joined the Cadet Training Corps at Denham 08/10/1916. He was appointed as a Flying Officer (RFC) (With seniority dated 27/02/1917). He served in #100 Squadron (Royal Flying Corps) at Ayre UK 04/08/1917. He served in "A" (Naval) Squadron (which became #16 (Naval) Squadron and then #216 Squadron) 17/11/1917. (He was demobilized.) He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross "As an observer to Captain R. Halley in a long distance night bombing raid this officer rendered very valuable service in dropping bombs on a great enemy war factory (which caused explosions therein), being exposed to very intense anti-aircraft fire from the enemy's guns. Lieutenant Reece has been engaged in 29 raids, and has displayed marked efficiency in this work." |
