Biography
He received his early education in England, and later worked for Pan Am Airlines in the Bahamas and on farms in Canada before training for the ministry. He was a Minister in the United Church of Canada. After marriage and graduations John was awarded a scholarship for post-grad study in Scotland. During that period he received a request from the United Church for him to skipper their mission boat, the Melvin Swartout, out of Bamfield BC. The family was there for 4 years when he was called to a rural charge near Oshawa. There were later moves to other churches in Ontario -Thunder Bay, Sudbury and Orillia. He retired in 1995. In 2016 he was living in Sidney BC.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1952. In 1952 he served in HMCS Cataraqui for UNTD. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant (With seniority dated 01/05/1955). He was appointed as Chaplain (2nd Class) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/05/1957). In 1957 he served in HMCS Malahat as Chaplain. (He was released.)
