Military Service
He entered the Royal Navy in 1788, serving mainly in the Mediterranean. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 14/07/1796). He served in H.M.S. Saturn 1796. He served in H.M.S. La Prompte 1797. He served in H.M.S. Queen 1798. He was appointed as an A/Commander RN (With seniority dated 01/01/1800). He served in H.M.S. Dilligence 1800. He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 11/06/1800). He served in H.M.S. Diligence was wrecked on Honda Bank Cuba in September 1800 with no loss of life. He was acquitted of blame. He served in H.M.S. Druid 1800. He served in H.M.S. La Desiree 1802. He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 15/10/1802). He served in H.M.S. La Pique (In command) 1803. He served in H.M.S. Marlborough as Flag Captain to Admiral George Cockburn 1812. He served in H.M.S. Sceptre as Flag Captain to Admiral George Cockburn. He served in H.M.S. Albion as Flag Captain to Admiral George Cockburn . He served in H.M.S. Northumberland as Flag Captain to Admiral George Cockburn 1815, and conveyed Napoleon to St. Helena. Rear-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 04/09/1837). He served as Commander of Portsmouth Dockyard 1817-20. He was Commissioner at Jamaica 07/1822. He was was Commissioner at Malta 15/12/1825. He was Commissioner at Plymouth Dockyard 1829-37. He served as Commander-in-Chief HM Ships and Vessels on the Pacific Station (Flag in H.M.S. President) 10/01/1837. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 10/01/1837).
