He attended McGill University. He worked with Pratt & Whitney Canada Inc. and SCAN Marine Inc. after retirement.

He was appointed as a Gunner (With seniority dated 05/07/1939). He served in the 3rd Medium Battery 2nd Montreal Regiment RCA (Non-permanent Militia). (Transferred to COTC) He was appointed as an Officer Cadet (COTC McGill University) 1941, (Transferred to RCNVR) 1942) He was appointed as a Probationary Midshipman (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 28/11/1941). He was appointed as a Probationary Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 22/02/1943). In 1943 he served in HMCS Kings (Officer Training Establishment). He served in HMCS Matapedia 1943. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 15/03/1943).
