Biography
He was the eldest son of Admiral Herbert Sawyer.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 09/12/1780). He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 14/01/1783). He served in H.M.S. Porcupine (In command). He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 03/02/1789). He served in H.M.S. Pegasus 1790. He served in H.M.S. Amphion 1793. He served in H.M.S. Saturn 1797. He served in H.M.S. Russell 1799. He served in H.M.S. Juste 1801. He served as Superintendent of Payments to Ships at Plymouth. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral of the Blue RN (With seniority dated 02/10/1807). He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral of the White RN (With seniority dated 28/04/1808). He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral of the Red RN (With seniority dated 31/07/1810). He served in Portsmouth as Second-in-Command 1810. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral of the Blue RN (With seniority dated 01/08/1811). He was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief in the River St. Lawrence, along the Coast of Nova Scotia, the islands of Anticosti, Madeline, St. John and Cape Breton, Bay of Fundy and Bermuda or Somers' Islands (Flag in H.M.S. Africa) in 1810. He was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief at Cork in 1810. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral of the White RN (With seniority dated 04/06/1814).
