He entered the Royal Navy in 08/1803 in H.M.S. Phaeton. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 16/11/1809). He served in HMS La Fleche 1809. He served in H.M.S. Marlborough 1812. He served as AdC to Admiral Cocburn in the shore operations agains the United States forces in 1814. He was present at the taking of Washington. He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 19/10/1814). He served in HMS Meteor (In command) 1824. He served in H.M.S. Harlequin (In command) 1824. He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 08/01/1828). He served in H.M.S. President as Flag Captain to Vice-Admiral Sir George Cockburn RN on the North America and West Indies Station 1834-36. He served as Flag Captain to Rear-Admiral C.B.H. Ross RN on the Pacific Station 1837-39. He served in H.M.S. Samarang on South American Station 1839. He was transferred to the China Station and he received the CB for his services in the First China War. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 26/10/1854). He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 04/06/1861). He was appointed as a Admiral RN (With seniority dated 10/02/1865). He was placed on the retired list under an order-in-council of 24/03/1866 because he had not flown his flag 02/04/1866. |
