He was appointed as a Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant (With seniority dated 06/10/1915). He sailed from Montreal on the Metagawa, 15/10/1915. He served in RNAS Chingford, 3/11/1915. He was injured in a bomb explosion, 23/01/1917 while with #3 (Naval) Wing. He served in Canada on sick leave, June 1917. He served in RNAS Maidstone, 25/11/1915.
