He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman (Officer Candidate UNTD) RCN(R) 1946. He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1948. In 1946-1948 he served in HMCS York for UNTD. He was appointed as a Surgeon Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 19/11/1951). (He was released.)
