He retired to Central Saanich BC where he lived on Mount Newton Cross Road.
 
Military Service
He joined the navy as a Boy Bugler RNCVR 1915. He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman RNCVR. He served in the RNCVR during the First World War. (He was demobilized.)

Named Features The Redvers E. Smith Memorial Trophy is awarded by the Saanich (BC) Fair for the “Most Points in Wine;” Wine Maker of the Year Award.
 
Anecdotes
He was an adventurous amateur wine maker who could produce fine wine from almost any vegetable or fruit. He donated his marine book collection to the Maritime Museum of British Columbia.
