He attended McGill University. He was the Associate Deputy Minister for English Protestant Education in Quebec.

He was appointed as an Officer Cadet (COTC McGill University). (Transferred to RCNVR 1943) He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman (Officer Candidate UNTD) RCNVR 1943. In 1943 he served in HMCS Donnacona for UNTD. (CFR) He was appointed as a Probationary Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNVR 1944. He served in HMCS Kings (Officer Training Estabishment) 1943. He served in HMCS Cornwallis on Executive Officers' Course 1944. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 08/12/1944). In 1944 he served in HMCS Cornwallis. In 1944 he served in HMCS Fleur-de-Lys (Examination Vessel). In 1945 he served in HMCS Cornwallis. In 1945 he served in HMCS Fleur-de-Lys (Examination Vessel). (He was demobilized.)
