He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 25/02/1949). He served in HMCS Carleton for UNTD 1948-1951. (Transferred to RCN for Short Service Appointment) He was appointed as a Midshipman (SSA) (RCN (With seniority dated 05/02/1952). (He was released.)
