Biography
Before he went to H.M.S. Conway he served in the Rainbow Sea Cadet Corps in Victoria BC. He served with the Alfred Holt Line as a Merchant Marine Deck Officer 1936-39. After his naval service he worked as a financial analyst for Richardson investments in Vancouver. He retired in 1989.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Cadet RNR. In 1934-36 he attended HMS Conway (Merchant Navy training establishment) in 1934. He was appointed as a Midshipman RNR in 1936. He served in H.M.S. Astoria in 1939. He was appointed as a A/Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RNR (With seniority dated 01/04/1940). He served in H.M.S. St. Vincent for #42 RN Observer Course 1940. He served in RNAS Ford 1940. He served in H.M.S. Goshawk (Piarco Trinidad) for First Observer Training Course 1940. He served in RNAS St. Merryn for Air Gunnery Training 1940. Awarded Observer Wings 01/06/1940. He served in RNAS Lee-on-Solent for 820 RN TBR Squadron 1940. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (O) (Temp.) RNR. He served in H.M.S. Formidable for 820 (Albacore) Squadron 1941. He served in H.M.S. Formidable for 828 (Barracuda) Squadron 1944. He served in H.M.S. Implacable for 828 (Barracuda) Squadron 1944. (Transferred to RCNVR 01/01/1944). He was appointed as an A/Lieutenant (Temp.) (O) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/01/1944). He served in RNAS Lee-on-Solent for 828 RN Squadron as Senior Observer 1944. He served in NHQ for RCN Air Division as Staff Officer 1944. He was appointed as a A/Lieutenant-Commander (O) (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 24/04/1945). He served in NHQ as Assistant Director of Air Personnel 1945. He served in HMCS Niobe for Canadian Naval Mission Overseas as Staff Officer (Air) 1944-6, (Short Service Appointment 04/09/1947). He was appointed as a Lieutenant (O) (SSA) RCN (With seniority dated 11/07/1942). He was appointed as an A/Lieutenant-Commander (O) (SSA) RCN 1947. He served in NHQ as Director of Air Personnel 1947. He served in HMCS Magnificent and HMCS Shearwater as Commanding Officer 825 Squadron 1948. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (O) (SSA) RCN (With seniority dated 11/01/1950). He served in HMCS Magnificent as Lieutenant-Commander Operations 1950). He served in NHQ as Naval Assistant to Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Air) 1952. He served in HMCS Shearwater as Officer-in-Charge of Observer School 1954. He served in RCAF Staff College for course 1954. He served in NHQ on Staff of Director Naval Plans and Operations 1955. (Selected for permanent commission). He served in NDHQ on Staff of Directorate of Undersea Warfare 1958. He served in SACLANT HQ as Executive Assistant and Assistant Chief of staff for Intelligence 1960. (He was retired 03/05/1963.)
