He was appointed as a Naval Cadet RCN (With seniority dated 01/09/1963). He served in Royal Roads Military College 1963. In 1965 he served in the Royal Military College of Canada. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 01/05/1967). He was appointed as a Lieutenant (N) (With seniority dated 01/05/1969). He served in Canadian Forces Fleet School Halifax for Combat Control Officer’s Course 1971. He served in HMCS Iroquois as Weapons Officer 1972.
