He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 01/05/1967). He was appointed as a Lieutenant (N) (With seniority dated 01/05/1969). He served in Canadian Forces Fleet School Halifax for Combat Control Officer’s Course 1971. He served in HMCS Iroquois as Weapons Officer 1972. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (With seniority dated 01/01/1975). He served in NDHQ DCDS 1975. He served in Canadian Forces Command and Staff College 1977. In 1978 he served in HMCS Athabaskan as Executive Officer. He was appointed as a Commander (With seniority dated 01/01/1980).
