Biography
He was the son of Arthur Howard Tait, who had served in the First World War with the 85th Battalion Nova Scotia Highlanders. He attended Mount Allison University. to study theology, but graduated in 1951 with a BA in history and a B.Ed., beginning as a school teacher in Nova Scotia. He earned an MA in history from Dalhousie University in 1962. After his naval service he worked for nine years as a training specialist with Revenue Canada Taxation in Ottawa ON.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1948. In 1948 he served in HMCS Scotian for UNTD. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 06/02/1951). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). (He was released.) (Short Service Appointment). He was appointed as an Instructor Lieutenant (SSA) RCN (With seniority dated 06/02/1953). (Selected for permanent commission). He was appointed as a Instructor Lieutenant-Commander (SSA) RCN (With seniority dated 06/02/1961). He served in NDHQ on Staff of Directorate of Training Requirements Aids and Methods 1963. (He was released 1974.)
