He left Jamaica in 1949 to attend university in Canada in New Brunswick at Mt. Allison University for pre-med. In 1952 he participated in the Annual Atlantic Command Track & Field Meet and placed First in the 220 yard run, First in the broadjump categories. He attended medical school in Montreal at McGill University, and formed lifelong connections and friendships there. From Montreal he moved to take a residency position at Metropolitan General Hospital in Windsor ON. He joined the Doctor's Hospital in Toronto, and soon joined the Raxlen Clinic in the Regent Park area. This was the start of his 5 decades of family medical practice in the Toronto area. |

He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1951. In 1951-1952 he served in HMCS Scotian for UNTD (Mt A). He served in HMCS Stadacona for Training 1952. He served in HMCS Haida for Sea Training. (He was released.) |
