Biography
He commanded a small boat in the attack on Fort Royal in Martinique. He was present at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent in 1797. He received the thanks of the United States Government for his work in the Sandwich Islands. Admiral Thomas arrived in Honolulu on the frigate Dublin on July 26, to assure the king of the English government's good faith. Great Britain declared Paulet's act to be unauthorized, and on July 31, the Hawaiian flag was again raised. During Thanksgiving services held at Kawaiaha‘o Church, Kamehameha III expressed what would become Hawai‘i’s motto: "Ua mau ke ea o ka aina i ka pono" --The life of the land is preserved in righteousness. The whole community rejoiced. Thomas Square near downtown Honolulu was later dedicated to Admiral Thomas.

Leander (On the Halifax Station). He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 18/01/1803). He served in H.M.S. Etna (Bomb) (In command) in 1803. He served in H.M.S. Belerophon in 1805. He was appointed as a Captain RN. He served in H.M.S. Queen as Flag Captain to Lord Collingwood 1805. He served in H.M.S. Ocean as Flag Captain to Lord Collingwood. He served in H.M.S. Ville de Paris as Flag Captain to Lord Collingwood, HMS Undaunted (In command) 1811. He served as Captain of Ordinary Portsmouth 1822-25. He served as Captain of Ordinary Plymouth 1834-47. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral of the White RN (With seniority dated 10/01/1837). He served as Commander-in-Chief HM Ships and Vessels on the Pacific Station (Flag in H.M.S. Dublin) 1841-44. In 1843 he was responsible for the restoration of Hawaiin sovereignty on on February 17, 1843. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 01/01/1848). He was appointed as a Admiral RN (With seniority dated 11/09/1854). (He was retired.)
