He went to sea in the brig Alciope on the Baltic run from the UK. He served in foreign-going ships out of US Atlantic coast ports. He served for two years on the China coast after his wartime service. He served two years in the steamer Panama as Quartermaster and Third Mate. He came to Victoria in 1878. He served in the pilot boat Carolina as Master. (He was qualified as a Master Mariner (Coast trade #2212).) On 04/12/1878 he was appointed as a British Columbia Marine Pilot serving in the Victoria & Esquimalt District.. |
