He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN. He served in HMS Dartmouth and voyaged to Boston in 1686. He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 17/02/1691). He served in H.M.S. Foresight (In command) 1692. In 1701 he joined the fleet under Sir George Rooke at Cadiz. He was appointed as a Commodore for the unsuccessful attack on Guadeloupe in 1702. He participated in the aborted attack on the French fishery in Placentia Bay in 1702. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral of the White RN (With seniority dated 03/1711). He commanded the fleet intended to undertake amphibious operation against Quebec 1711. The fleet was severely damaged by a major storm while in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the expedition abandoned. In 1712-13 he was appointed commodore of the squadron in Jamaica. |
