His home was in Toronto where he worked in the editorial department of the Toronto Evening Telegram. He attended the Curtiss Flying School in Toronto ON. He was awarded Royal Aero Club Certificate 1714 dated 31 August 1915. (He is reported as being the first Canadian to receive the DFC.) he has taken a prominent part in civic politics in Toronto, and has been successively school trustee, alderman, controller and finally mayor. By profession he is a journalist, and in his spare time h has taken an active part in the affairs of the Toronto Flying Club. He was a War Correspondent in World War Two. He was elected as the Mayor of Toronto, 1930; journalist; awarded OBE (Civil) as per Canada Gazette dated 1 July 1946. |

He was appointed as a Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RNAS (With seniority dated 1/09/ 1915) in Ottawa ON. He sailed from Montreal 18/09/1915. He served in RNAS Portsmouth, 17/10/1915. He served in RNAS Killingholme 12/11/1915. He served in RNAS Redcar 15/02/1916. He served in RNAS Eastchurch 6/03/1916. He served in RNAS Great Yarmouth 10/04/1916. He served in RNAS Redcar, 10/06/1916. He served in RNAS Dover 18/09/1917. He was hospitalized 26/08/1918. He served in #218 Squadron, 23/05/1918 - 10/01/1919 when invalided to England. He served in a Rehabilitation Camp 14/05/1919. He was one of several from Great Yarmouth who attempted to bomb the German naval squadron which shelled Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth on 25/04/1916, flying a BE.2c. (He was demobilized.) |
