He was the brother of Admiral George Westphal. Philip Westphal was related through marriage to the family of Joseph Howe. He was wounded with Nelson at Copenhagen in 1801 |
Military Service |

He was appointed as a Volunteer in 1794 serving in HMS L'Oiseau. (He was present at the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801.) He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN in 1812c. In 1813 he served in HMS Junon and commanded a small boat action in Deleware Bay in which the USN vessel U.S.N. Gunboat No. 121 was captured. He served in HMS Amazon as Senior Lieutenant. He was appointed as a Commander RN. He commanded a French Prize. He was appointed as a Captain RN. He was promted to Rear-Admiral (Retired) RN in 1855. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral (Retired) RN. He was appointed as a Admiral (Retired) RN in 1866. |
