He was a student of applied sciences at McGill University at the time of his recruitment. He entered the Thomas Flying School at Ithaca, New York 11/1915 and travelled to St. Augustine FL with the same school. |

He was appointed as Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant RNAS (With seniority dated 09 May 1916) in Ottawa ON. He served in Crystal Palace 11/06/1916. He served in RNAS Eastbourne 01/07/1916. He served in Cranwell 11/08/1916. He served in RNAS Felixstowe 30/10/1916 (for instruction). He was appointed as a Flight Lieutenant RNAS (With seniority dated 31/12/1917).
