He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman RCNVR (With seniority dated 31/05/1940). He served in the Regina Division RCNVR 1940. He served in HMCS Stadacona 1940. He served in H.M.S. St. Vincent for #23 Pilot Training Course 1940. He served in RAF Luton for #14 Elementary Flying Training School 1941. He was appointed as an A/Leading Naval Airman RCNVR 1941. He served in RAF Kingston for #31 Service Flying Training School 1941. (CFR). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (P) (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 16/11/1941). He served in H.M.S. Daedalus 1941. He served in H.M.S. Jackdaw. He served in H.M.S. Condor. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (P) (Temp.) RCNVR. He served in H.M.S. Landrail in 766 RN Squadron for Crew Training 1942.
