J. Peter Wright (Email to Nauticapedia 17/01/2023) stated "On D-Day, while flying spitfires out of France with 442 squadron, my father was involved in attacks on and sinking of midget submarines that the Germans were using to attack the invasion fleet. Also 442 Squadron was the first allied squadron to operate out of France since the fall of France. They were landing rearming and refueling on D-Day plus 2."
