Biography
He the son of Commander E. D. Ashe RN. On Saturday 4 July 1914 he motored from his home "Longwood", near Camberley to Winchester in a motorcycle with a sidecar. On the return journey He was in collision with an automobile at Hartford Bridge Flats, and thrown from the motorcycle to the road. After being taken to Frimley Cottage Hospital he died from his injuries on the morning of 5 July.
 
Military Service
He joined the Royal Navy and became a Naval Cadet on 1 August, 1866, having passed from Mr. Foster's "crammer" at Stubbington House near Fareham. He received his Naval Cadet's certificate on 22 August. He was appointed as a Naval Cadet RN (With seniority dated 01/08/1866). He won a prize while at the Royal Naval College in 1882. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 17/12/1872). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 30/01/1877). He was qualified as a Gunnery Officer. He served in the Egyptian War. He served in H.M.S. Thalia as First Lieutenant. He served in H.M.S. Philomel as First Lieutenant in 1883. He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 30/06/1891). He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 30/06/1899). He served in the South African War. He was appointed as a Commodore RN. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN. (He retired on 08/04/1907 under the Order-in-Council dated 08/12/1903.)
