Biography
He was an Honourary Trustee of the Maritime Museum of British Columbia. He was the Chairman of the Naval Review 1967-1978. He served as a Trustee of the National Maritime Museum (Greenwich UK) 1960-1974. He was the Vice-President of the Society for Nautical Research in 1970. He was a noted author of nautical history articles and books.

He was appointed as a Naval Cadet RCN 1917. He served in the Royal Naval College of Canada. He was a member of the eighth term of the RNCC. He was appointed as a Midshipman RCN (With seniority dated 01/09/1920) serving in HMCS Diana. He transferred from the RCN to the RN in 1921. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RN 1921. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN 1924. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander RN (With seniority dated 01/10/1932). He served at H.M.S. Vernon 1934. He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 31/12/1938). He served on the staff of the Admiralty. He served in H.M.S. Mauritius as Executive Officer 1942.
