Biography
Originally his name was Benjamin Hallowell, but he changed his family name to Carew in 1828. He is reported as being born in both Canada and in Massachussets. He was present at the Battle of Aboukir Bay. He was captured by the French in 1801, released on parole and court martialled at Port Mahon but acquitted of all blame.
