He served as an Apprentice in the Canadian Government Merchant Marine in 1922. In 1927 he worked on the West Coast of British Columbia. He qualified as a Master Mariner in1929. During the 1930s he served on 27 vessels as Deckhand, Mate and Master. After his naval service he worked in coastal towing and freighting on the Pacific coast. Afterwards with his son, Miles, he established Camosun Building Services Ltd. |
