He was a Sea Cadet prior to his naval service.

 

Military Service

He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman RN. (CFR. He served in the Royal Navy Upper Yardmen's College 1947), He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RN 1947. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RN 1942. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN. (Transferred to RCN) 1948. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 16/05/1941). He served in NHQ on Staff of Directorate of Naval Aviation as Staff Officer (Navigation Direction) 1948. He served in NHQ as Staff Officer (Navigation Direction) 1958. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander RCN. He was appointed as a Commander RCN (With seniority dated 01/07/1952). He served in HMCS Niobe for RN Joint Services Staff Course 1954. He served in HMCS Bonaventure as Executive Officer 1957. He was appointed as a Captain RCN (With seniority dated 01/07/1958). He served in HMCS Stadacona for RCN Barracks Halifax as Officer-in-Charge RCN Depot Halifax 1958. He served in HMCS Algonquin (I) (In command) and as Commander Canadian Squadron One 1961. He served in HMCS Crescent (In command) 1962. He served in NDHQ on Staff of Directorate of Manpower Requirements 1964. He served in National Defence College of Canada (Course 19) 1965. (He was released.) (He was qualified to navigate a small vessel and to act as intercept officer.)
