Military Service
He was appointed as a Midshipman RN 1797. He served in HMS Driver (sloop). He served in HMS Prevoyante (frigate). He served in HMS Assistance (50 guns). He served in HMS Waakzaamheid (26 guns). He served in HMS Leander (50 guns) on the North America Station. He was appointed as a Master's Mate RN. He was appointed as an A/Lieutenant RN. He served in HMS Lily (sloop). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 01/05/1804). (Between 1812 and 1814 he captured over 30 ships and he was wounded 17 times during his career.) He served in HMS Vertu (40 guns) 1804. He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 17/09/1807). He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 07/06/1814). He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 01/09/1849). (He was retired in 1851.) He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN (Retired) on 21/10/1856.
