Anecdotes
In 1941 this vessel was seized from her Japanese owners by the Canadian Government. In 1942 her ownership transferred to His Majesty the King. Bryon Taylor (27/11/2017) states that"Reference RG 12 Volume 841 File 9015 - W16 Requisitioning of Ships - War Measures - Western Chief states that this vessel was requisitioned January 14, 1942 but the requisition was cancellled February 02, 1942 when this vessel was found to be unsuitable for naval service."
