In 1944 this vessel was based in Halifax NS. this vessel was later transferred to Esquimalt BC. In September 2000 this vessel was offered for sale in Fort Lauderdale Florida (at US$150,000). Gino Stradiotti (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 17/08/2016) stated "North Arm Transportation purchased the Clifton ATA 529 from Crown Assets in the early '70's. We brought her to our place where this vessel was laid up until the early '80's. this vessel was sold to a company in North Vancouver doing underwater work (Horton?). The story was they sent her to California to assist in an underwater mining project recovering bird guano from a sunken offshore island to be used for fertilizer. Eventually this vesselended up somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico as we got a call from a curious party saying it was tied up and her main engine components, heads, piston, etc. were laying on the back deck." In 2013 the Clifton was sunk in the Florida (Miami River) as an artificial diving reef as a memorial for Danny McCauley. |
