Anecdotes
The shipwrights at Boeing selected straight grained Douglas Fir for her hull & deck planking. Research was conducted and they found the densest wood on the slopes of Washington’s Mount St. Helens. Strong White Oak was used for her frames. In 1959 this vessel was decommissioned, engine and most loose gear removed, then sold at auction for $10 to Doc Freeman of Seattle. Doc owned the Fremont Boat Co., and began her conversion from workboat to pleasure craft. In 1984 after their annual summer cruise Joe DaPron set about improving her arrangement. Originally galley forward, he moved it aft of the salon making a comfortable living space. The Foc’sle became a private master stateroom. A new modern head and shower were installed aft.
