Anecdotes

Rolf Leben (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 07/02/2018) states that "I owned Granby from 1982 to 2000 and it served me well. An American bought it from me, then another one after that, who in turn had it sink on him in the Columbia River, Washington. He could not afford to pay the imposed salvage and it was towed to the Oregon side about 40 miles from Portland. I found her there at the end of 2015, photographed her final quivers and this vesselis now on her bottom on the bottom. Can't get any lower than that. Very sad! Anyone interested in her history can read my obituary on her in the Western Mariner, Jan. issue, 2016. My family came from Sweden to Quatsino, BC. 1957 and our neighbor was Capt.Bertram Perrie, just retired off the Granby." Mary Lou Lancaster stated "The Granby was a big part of our family history, so thought you might like to have some additional information that I have. I was saddened to hear of her fate in Washington. this vessel was a grand old lady. The information I have to add is: My grandfather, Capt. Walter George Johnstone was the the company master mariner of the Granby and other tugs and working boats in Anyox from 1932 -1938. My father went on the Granby with him to Vancouver each summer, returning with the company owners. "
