Anecdotes
This vessel was commissioned in 1963 and was usually based at Halifax NS. In 1981 the CGS Hudson under her skipper F. W. Mauger sailed from East to West in a Transit of the Northwest Passage and again in 1970 under command of D. W. Butler as a Survey Ship, this vessel was the 'First To Sail Around North and South America.' This vessel played an important role in searching for the debris of Swissair Flight 111. This vessel retrieved a number of bodies from the oil rig Ocean Ranger which capsized and sank in the Atlantic Ocean on February 15, 1982. In 2022 this vesselhad become worn out and a proposal to undertake a refit in anticipation of the delivery of a new vessel in 2025 was shelved and this vessel was retired.
