Anecdotes
This vessel was built as a replacement for the Rivtow Norseman Bill Carey states (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 08/10/2016) that "After the towboat strike in 1970 Rivtow and Straits towing amalgamated and became Rivtow Straits Ltd. (RSL) When the Rivtow Norseman was lost a loading works was setup in Kitimat to load chartered flat deck log barges Alberni Carrier and Powell Carrier plus two others. Rivtow now had the tug Gibraltar Straits with two towlines so this vessel was put on the run towing two flatdecks per trip. Log barge fleet now consisted of Rivtow Carrier, Straits Logger, single crane barges Great West 2 & 3, Straits Skidder, Straits Traveller, Straits Cold Decker. I don't know the story as to the whys, but many years later it was decided that Rivtow Straits would build a log barge with cranes and grapples capable of loading an entire log bundle ( truckload) in a single lift - the Rivtow Hercules was born, and a dedicated tug was built to tow it, named the Rivtow Capt Bob."
